Founded in 2009, Compete Sports Performance & Rehab focuses on transforming individuals of all athletic levels into the best athletes they can be. Compete Sports Performance and Rehab has grown into a first-class operation working with some of the best athletes and teams, while supporting many youth club organizations and high schools in Orange County, Los Angeles, Lake Forest, and surrounding communities. We recently sat down with Chris Phillips, owner of Compete Sports Performance & Rehab to find out more about his business:
Question & Answer1. Tell me a little bit about your business? What makes it unique?
I am an Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 20 years experience in professional hockey, football, and soccer, most notably working with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. We offer sports performance training for athletes, personal training for adults, and rehab of sports-related injuries. What makes us unique is our experience coupled with the fact that our programs are tailored to meet the demands placed on our clients. I have worked with athletes such as Teemu Selanne, Alex Ovechkin, Marta and Shannon Boxx. Compete clients are treated with the same respect and urgency as the pros we have worked with. I am also proud to say we have had over 70 college commitments since our opening.
2. How did you get involved in your industry?
I initially tore my ACL in high school which got me interested in the rehab aspects of sports. At the time, I was going to one of the first Sports Physical Therapists in New York and was able to rehab with next to pro athletes from the New York Rangers, Giants and Jets.
3. How did you start the business?
During my tenure as Head Athletic Trainer with the Anaheim Ducks, I decided I wanted to someday bring the same service that pro athletes receive to the public. Pro athletes want to be better now and need to return to their pre-injury status. Amature athletes and Weekend Warriors typically want the same, but don't always have that type of access. After my tenure with the Anaheim Ducks, I began working with the Arena Football League. When the Arena Football League shut down a few years later in 2009, that was my time to move forward and open up shop.
4. Why did you choose to locate in Lake Forest?
There were a few clients living in the vicinity and the location was very convenient, as we have immediate access to the Toll Road, 5, and 405 freeways. The city was also very helpful with us getting situated and is very business friendly.
