Lake Forest-based ReVision Optics Inc., recently announced study results on its Raindrop Near Vision Inlay product showed, “significantly improved near and immediate vision” in patients with presbyopia. Presbyopia reduces the eye’s ability to focus and is present in nearly everyone over age 40. In the past, this has been corrected through the usage of glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. However, ReVision Optics is one step closer to eliminating the need for these remedies and is close to developing its own solution. The Raindrop Near Vision Inlay is placed in the cornea of the non-dominant eye during a 10-minute procedure. Comprised of approximately 80% water and has a refractive index very similar to the cornea, it is transparent and can be reshaped to the curvature of individual corneas, designed to improve near and intermediate supervision. Highlights of the one-year post-treatment outcomes include 93% of subjects achieving uncorrected near visual acuity of 20/25 or better in the treated eye, and zero loss in binocular distance vision.
